Recreation at Hickory Hill

The Lake Junaluska Aquatic Center is open daily from Friday, May 25 to Monday, September 3, 2018. The center is open to the public and includes an outdoor pool and boat rentals. Boats include canoe, kayak and stand up paddle board rentals. Tennis courts, mini golf and shuffle board are located nearby.

Daily and weekly pool passes and boat and equipment rentals may be purchased at the Lake Junlauska Rec Hut, located next to the Kern Center. Summer Activities Passes may be purchased at the Bethea Welcome Center. More information on activities and pricing can be found on the Lake Junaluska webpage.

Fishing

Grab your fishing pole and get away from it all! Common catches include bass, perch, crappie, brim, bluegill and trout.

Fishing is permitted only in designated areas following the regulations of the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission. There is no fishing after dark. Fishermen should be sensitive to waterfowl and swans. More information can be found at ncwildlife.org. Fishing licenses are available at Ace Hardware located at 1391 Dellwood Rd, Waynesville, N.C. 28786 (0.5 miles west of Lake Junaluska on Hwy 19 West).

No boats using gasoline or diesel fuel are allowed on the waters of the lake. Access for boats on trailers is available at the Hwy 19 boat ramp. Other vessels may be launched from either the Hwy 19 boat ramp or the boat beach located to the north of the Aquatic Center on Memory Lane. No fishing from lakeshore in this area and no fishing in swan feeding zone.


2018 Summer Activities Pass

The Summer Activity Pass is available for all persons interested in using our facilities. Summer Activity Passes will be available for purchase at the Bethea Welcome Center and at Junaluska Gifts & Grounds.

Lake Junaluska Residents: $135 (up to four persons per family)

Non-Residents: $200 (up to four persons per family)

Memberships receive the following services and offers:

  • Free admission to the Lake Junaluska Swimming Pool up to 4 people.
  • 10% dining discount at the Lambuth Inn and The Terrace (cannot be applied to any other discounts or special offers and only available between Memorial Day and Labor Day)
  • 10% discount at Junaluska Gifts & Grounds and Golf Course Snack Bar
  • $1 off boat rentals up to 4 people, per visit
  • Half price greens fee at the Lake Junaluska Golf Course when cart rental is purchased.
  • Free Cherokee IV Pontoon Boat Tour for up to 4 people, as space is available and as long as other groups have not rented Cherokee IV for private tours.

Each Summer Activities Pass must be presented at time of service and are non-transferable.  Activities passes will be available for purchase at the Bethea Welcome Center or Junaluska Gifts & Grounds during regular hours.

 


Hiking & Walking Trails

Take advantage of the many hiking and walking trails located near Hickory Hill! There are plenty of outdoor trails that will suit everyone’s desires, whether you and your family want to enjoy a leisurely stroll around Lake Junaluska or tackle mountainous terrain on one of the trails located in the Pisgah National Forest or Great Smoky Mountain National Park. Lake Junaluska Walking Trail

The Lake Junaluska walking trail is a wonderful way to enjoy the outdoors and discover the beauty and serenity of the lake. Check out our walking trail guide, which features historical descriptions of various locations seen around the lake as visitors walk along the trail.

Waynesville Greenway

The Waynesville Greenway follows Richland Creek for 5.3 miles. Visitors will enjoy hiking or biking this trail, which ends at the Waynesville Recreation Park.

Great Smoky Mountain National Park

Visit the Great Smoky Mountain National Park and discover a wide variety of activities that your whole family can enjoy! The park offers activities like ranger-guided walks and talks, bicycling, horseback riding, hay riding, picnicking and much more. Many hiking trails are located within a 30 to 40 minute drive from Lake Junaluska.

Pisgah National Forest

The Pisgah National Forest also offers a variety of hiking locations to get your blood pumping and bring your family together for a day of fun and spectacular views! Many of these locations are within an hour drive from Lake Junaluska.
